Janeuary is an alternative pop singer-songwriter from in Ukraine.
She is a storyteller, a composer, and an artist whose music transcends genres, blending cinematic depth with raw emotion. Her music is not made for the masses—it’s crafted for those who seek meaning, for those who feel deeply, for those who crave a sound that resonates with the heart’s unspoken words.
Born into a family where music and literature were sacred, Janeuary was destined to create. Her parents, both musicians, and her grandfather, a poet, shaped her artistic DNA. Growing up surrounded by music—from her mother’s Chopin and Ravel to the timeless sounds of Philip Glass, Moby, Winehouse, and Jackson—she absorbed a kaleidoscope of influences. Her journey began with classical piano training, but her heart sought something deeper: a way to fuse the past with the present, tradition with innovation, and fragility with power.
Her name, Janeuary, carries a personal history. As a teenager, she wrote poetry but was too shy to share it under her real name. “It’s a reward to that little, shy girl inside me,” she admits. But before Janeuary existed, she performed under the stage name Жанна27. However, that chapter closed in 2022, marking the end of one era and the beginning of another. In 2023, she officially stepped into the spotlight as Janeuary.
Janeuary first captivated audiences with her daring instrumental album No News but Muse (2023)—a 16-track odyssey of cinematic soundscapes. It wasn’t just an album; it was an experience, inspiring dancers, filmmakers, and visual artists worldwide. From Japanese choreographer Masaki to Austrian filmmaker Harry Ergott, her music became a canvas for others to paint their stories. The album’s release was celebrated with a breathtaking charity concert in Kyiv’s botanical garden, uniting Ukraine’s most esteemed classical musicians.
Her transition into vocal-driven music came in November 2023 with Heart Exposure Symphony, recorded with Ukraine’s finest classical musicians at the National Philharmonic. This was more than a song—it was a bridge between her instrumental roots and her vocal storytelling, setting the stage for what was to come. Janeuary is still the only artist in her country who was honored to shoot her music video “Heart Exposure Symphony” in the National Philharmonic of Ukraine.
Janeuary’s music is not confined to one style. In My Damn Head stormed Spotify, finding its place on nearly 300 playlists. Everest, released in February 2024, was her boldest statement yet. She didn’t just sing about emotional heights—she climbed to the Everest base camp itself, filming a raw, unfiltered music video at the summit. No makeup, no elaborate production—just her, the mountains, and the truth of the moment.
Her ability to reinvent herself continued with Nineteen Nights (July 2024), an album that explored love through 19 stories. Inspired by Jeff Buckley’s philosophy that “making music is making love,” the album fused alternative pop with classical instrumentation—piano, viola, cello, contrabass, and saxophone—creating an intoxicatingly lush and melancholic sound.
Then came Earendel (September 2024), a six-track electronic EP that took fans by surprise. With atmospheric beats and a touch of noir sensuality, Janeuary proved that she could master any genre. Singing in French on Viens avec moi, collaborating with Ukrainian musician Esolate, and even dancing with royal pythons in the title track’s video, she shattered expectations once again.
December 2024 brought Black into White, a song that blurred the lines between darkness and light, emotion and sound. Its music video won “Best Black & White Music Video” and “Best Mobile Phone Music Video” at the Europe Music Video Awards. Moreover it received an honorable mention at London Music Video Awards, Munich Music Video Awards, Berlin Music Video Award and International Music Video Awards.
And on February 14, 2025, Janeuary embraced her Ukrainian roots with Із підліткових снів (“From the Teenager’s Dreams”), a song drenched in nostalgia, longing, and poetic melancholy. And later she released the second song in Ukrainian – Білих лілій.
On March 29th Janeuary gave a concert with the orchestra in the National Philharmonic of Ukraine.
This year Janeuary takes part in GrassrEUts project.
For Janeuary, music is more than a career—it’s a relentless pursuit of truth. “Every time I go to the studio, I do everything to the best of my ability, just like for the last time. It’s like I’m going to die tomorrow,” she confesses.
This urgency, this unfiltered sincerity, is what makes her music unlike anything else. She doesn’t just write songs—she crafts worlds, builds emotions into melodies, and turns fleeting moments into timeless echoes.
Janeuary is not just an artist to listen to. She is an artist to experience.
